Receta de Pascua: torrijas! /Easter recipe: torrijas!

BON APPETIT!

I asked my mom's recipe for "torrijas", similar to French toasts, because they are typical at this easter time and I really want to share with you. I think Thursday is a perfect day to cook and taking them for breakfast on Friday morning. Yep, I'll do that! Yummy!!

Ingredients:

Bread two-days-old
2 eggs
Milk
Sugar
Syrup

Syrup recipe:

Ingredients: water, sugar, honey.
Preparation: Mix 1 +1 / 2 cups of water with 8 teaspoons of sugar in a saucepan and heat. When half the volume of water has evaporated, add a generous stream of honey. Remove up when it gets a typical syrup's viscous.

Torrijas preparation:

Cut the bread into thick slices.
Heat the milk until it is slightly warm. Then sweeten with sugar to taste.
Beat eggs in a bowl.
Dip bread slices in warm sugared milk, and then drench both sides with the beaten egg. It is then fry the slices of bread in a frying pan with hot oil. As they turn into golden tone, remove from pan and deposited on paper towels to absorb excess oil. Next, the slices of bread have to be soaked in syrup, which must then be cold. Let cool all of them and ... we already have our "torrijas"!

You also can sprinkle cinnamon on them! BON APPETIT!

Small Cool Home

Good things come in small packages. Apartment Therapy is performing the 8th annual cool contest to find small cool homes, Small Cool 2012. Love this idea! The most of us are living into apartments under (or veeery under) 1000 square feet, requirement to submit an entry, so take a look because if you don't dare to submit yours, you can note some great ideas to decorate your home anyway! This is my fave so far:

Son sólo 36 m2! Tan chiquitita y tan bonita!
Just 390 ft2! So tiny and so cool!

Amor para siempre/ Love ever after

Lauren Fleishman found an old letter his grandfather had written to his grandmother during World War II. The letter spoke of a young love, full of joy and great expectations for the future and the life that they would begin to enjoy together. The words of his grandfather inspired Lauren, a photographer based in New York, to spend the last three years photographing and interviewing in the New York area couples who have been together for over 50 years. The project is called 'Love ever after'. Here below (and also the top one) are some of the images by Lauren and I copied some excerpts from the interviews. A wonderful project about the secret to eternal love. What do you think scientists would say about this? Will these couples meet the three necessary things they said I talked about on Friday? I think many of them have played the "let's check who makes the other one happier", and have been playing all their life. I'm more than willing to play forever.

"(...) The times were different. We met in the 1939 and we didn't have money. So our group of friends always met at our friend Betty's basement. There weren't things like dates and going out to dinner. We didn't know from those things because we didn't have money. So we enjoyed each others' company. "

Me dice: ¿te he dicho hoy cuánto te amo? Todos los días. Todos los días dice esto."
"Everyday my wife expresses her love for me. She says, did I tell you how much I love you today? Everyday. Everyday she says that."

"We met when we lived in China. I was on vacation in another town and we only saw each other for three days. We lived very far apart and so, when I returned home, we sent letters. At that time we didn't even have a telephone! We wrote letters each week but it took about 20 days for our letters to reach each other. We did this for five years."

2º Quién es quién?/ #2 Who's who?

Another no-prize contest :)) You know there is a prize, just the same one there was in the last contest: the more you guess the more satisfaction you feel! Ok, here we go: Could you say who are these people on the photos below? Some of them are easier, and the rest are harder. Here's a clue: hmm, no, no clue, because if I give you guys a clue, you will be right for sure!

Casual Mondays

This Monday is more Casual than never for both Teo and me. While in the islands, what  we basically do is going for a walk, meeting some friends and, above all, spending time with family. Teo loves being here. But not for the good weather (20 degrees and sunny every day) and not for his grandparents, but quite another thing. Here, at my parents's, lives our cat, Simon, Teo's new obsession. Simon is the best cat in the world and the most patient, because this chubby baby is chasing it all the time, wherever it goes, and although sometimes he strokes it, which he tries all the time is touching its nose, which is pink. Note: Teo likes to play touching other people noses with the tip of the index finger and, in doing so, the receiver has to say "Ding Dong".

I'll tell you how the days of persecution will end, but in case you are interested in graphic evidence, here a few frames. "Previously on ... The pussycats stalker":
